I might be repeating myself but so what. I think a lot of people talking like they were always big UGK fans are frontin. I'm from the land where Suave House, Rap-A-Lot, & the non-east coast Jive artists reigned supreme & I don't remember UGK getting so much props until they popped up on that Jay-Z song. As I type this I do remember conversations with Wendy Day where she was telling me they had contract issues & those issues went on for a long time (basically they refused to record & the label refused to allow them to appear on other peoples albums) so maybe that has something to do with the surge in people screaming their names but I still say most of you are frontin. And to be real, that kinda made me discredit them a lil bit.
With Jay-Z/I was never a big UGK fan. I really liked Pocket Full Of Stones. Use Me Up & Front Back were alright to me but didn't inspire me to pick up albums so this was my first UGK full length. I already knew I liked Bun B (no homo) because of all the mixtape verses & collabs he's been doing since Pimp C was away. On the other hand, I hadn't really heard Pimp C more than a couple times in damn near 10 years so that, along with how do they sound when they're doing their own music, were the questions for me.
I like it. Pimp's rhymes can be predictable & tend to be the same things over & over but he's speaking the truth & he's just as funny on record as he was on that recent radio interview. There really needs to be more rappers spitting game. They've got good guest appearances from the likes of Willie D, Slim Thug, & Too Short. Big Daddy Kane & Kool G Rap lend verses to a song based on a loop of the beginning of the video version of The Symphony. The Scarface collabo is kinda misleading cuz Face only does the hook (& lends production... isn't that beat an interlude on The Fix?). Of course Outkast is on there too. It's a double album & honestly I thought it would never end. I'm sure people who favor this style of rap will like pretty much the whole thing but there's some songs I don't really care if I never hear again. I'll be editing things down to one strong disc.
At the end of the day I see that I was hating on them a lil bit because of their fans. I'mma dead that cuz that's lame. How did Dizzee Rascal & Talib Kweli get on here?
