The music industry has recorded a decline in digital sales in 2013. This is the first time that this has occurred in history. Just to put some things in perspective, as Billboard reports, digital track sales fell at 5.7% from 1.34 billion units to 1.26 billion units, along with digital album sales, which fell to 0.1% to 117.6 million units from the previous year’s total of 117.7 million. Album sales and CD sales also suffered various decreases; however, vinyl did jump from 4.55 million sales in 2012 to around 6 million. When it came down to artists' accomplishments in 2013, acts who went platinum increased from 10 to 13, which included Adele, Taylor Swift, and Justin Timberlake. As you can already guess, the top selling track of this past year was Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines, follow by the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis single 'Thrift Shop', which sold 6.5 and 6.1 million units respectively.
